V 1-8: The psalmist emphasizes teaching the next generation about God

V 9-39: This is from the book of Judges. The tribe of Ephraim failed to drive out the Canaanites. They were well-armed but they turned back, showing a failure to trust and obey God. This was a rejection of His laws and a forgetfulness of His mighty works.

V 40-55: This section recounts the persistent rebellion of the Israelites even after witnessing God’s miraculous deliverance from Egypt.

V 65-72: The tribe of Ephraim had been in leadership, but lost it because they failed to uphold the covenant. They treated the Ark of the Covenant like a magic talisman, leading to its capture. The decline of Ephraim can be seen in Judges and 1 Samuel. The selection of David can be found in 1 Samuel 16.
