1. The Pillars and Curtains

And thou shalt make the court of the tabernacle: for the south side southward there shall be hangings for the court of fine twined linen of an hundred cubits long for one side: And the twenty pillars thereof and their twenty sockets shall be of brass; the hooks of the pillars and their fillets shall be of silver. And likewise for the north side in length there shall be hangings of an hundred cubits long, and his twenty pillars and their twenty sockets of brass; the hooks of the pillars and their fillets of silver. And for the breadth of the court on the west side shall be hangings of fifty cubits: their pillars ten, and their sockets ten. And the breadth of the court on the east side eastward shall be fifty cubits. The hangings of one side of the gate shall be fifteen cubits: their pillars three, and their sockets three. And on the other side shall be hangings fifteen cubits: their pillars three, and their sockets three. Exodus 27:9-15

Map: The Tabernacle occupied an area of 50 x 100 cubits with the gate facing east. On the north and south sides were 20 posts or pillars; on the west were 10 pillars and on the east there was a gate 20 cubits wide with 15 cubits on each side and 3 pillars on each side. The pillars held up curtains of fine-twined linen: 100 cubits long on the North and  South, 50 cubits long on the west, and 15 cubits of curtain on each side of the gate.

And to her was granted that she should be arrayed in fine linen, clean and white: for the fine linen is the righteousness of saints. Revelation 19:8

Map: The Tabernacle in the Wilderness was a pattern. It represented in the physical world what was necessary to enter God’s presence in the spiritual world. When a person stepped through the gate and into the courtyard he was surrounded by fine linen, representing righteousness. Only the righteous can approach God. The gateway represented Jesus (see below).

2. The Gate

And for the gate of the court shall be an hanging of twenty cubits, of blue, and purple, and scarlet, and fine twined linen, wrought with needlework: and their pillars shall be four, and their sockets four. Exodus 27:16

Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me. John 14:6

Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved. Acts 4:12

Map: The curtains covering the Gate were made of specific colors. Scarlet represented the Blood of Jesus which made it possible for every person to enter into God’s presence. Purple represented the Majesty and Royalty of Jesus. Blue represented the Diety.
