Album Back-Story
More Precious Than Gold was our first album, professionally recorded in 1982 at Pinebrook Studio in Alexandria, Indiana. It was produced by Steve Millikan, a very gifted musician who also played keyboards and arranged the instruments and vocals for the pieces. Sound engineer: Steve Archer; bass guitar: Steve Dokken; percussion: Steve Hanna; electric and acoustic guitars: Jim Hronchek; trumpet: Gregory Tryling; English horn, saxophone and clarinet: Greg Imboden; background vocals Shelly Harris, Julie Makers, Craig Patty, Chandra Hronchek, Steve Millikan and members of New Covenant Fellowship. The synthesizer was a Pro One, an early monophonic synthesizer, and was played by Jim H, Steve M and Charles Woodrick. Each song from the album was based on The Lords Prayer, exploring its depths of meaning. All of the song lyrics were meticulously based on scripture from the King James Bible.
As We Forgive is based on: Ephesians 4:32; Romans 5:6-11; 1 Corinthians 2:16; Mark 11:25; Matthew 18:21,22
As We Forgive
As we forgive our debtors …
The two songs, Forgiven and As We Forgive explore the two aspects of forgiveness in The Lord’s Prayer: Forgiveness of our sins by God, and forgiveness of each other. It almost seems silly to hold a grudge against a brother or sister when such great forgiveness has been bestowed upon us. So, As We Forgive is a little bit silly. Verse 2 actually happened, but I believe verse 1 was a funny creation of our imaginations. Verse 3 puts the rest of it into perspective.
Forgiveness is one of the most basic requirements for entering the kingdom of heaven. Now you are forgiven, so you must also forgive. (Matthew 6:14,15)
LYRICS
Verse 1
I went into the city
When you told me not to go
I drank an extra bottle
And I wrecked your GTO
I gave the sergeant you I.D.
And skipped town without bail
My twin brother, please forgive me
Even though you’re still in jail
Please forgive me
I really didn’t mean to do it
Chorus 1
My Father will forgive you
Even as He forgives me
If you’re truly sorry
You can be set free
And I forgive you also
But let me tell you how I can
Your sins were washed away
Long before your life even began
Verse 2
I bought a tape recorder
from a college friend of mine
He assured me, he assured me
Everything was fine
Just as you expected
Things were not quite as he said
I plugged it in, turned it on
But everything was dead
But I’ve got the mind of Christ
I fixed it and now it’s fine
Oh, but just the same
My Father will forgive him
Even as He forgives me
If he’s truly sorry
He can be set free
And I forgive him also
But let me tell you how I can
His sins were washed away
Long before his life even began
Verse 3
All the times that I was lied to
And stolen from as well
Cheated and mistreated
Not knowing who fell
Though there are no faces
To equate with all those deeds
For those of you responsible
Jesus Christ did bleed
And He washed them all away
Now they’re all gone
And there’s nothing left to be done
Chorus 3
My Father will forgive them
Even as He forgives me
If they’re truly sorry
They can be set free
And I forgive them also
But let me tell you how I can
Their sins were washed away
Long before their lives even began
Before their lives began
Before their lives began
