Album Back-Story

More Precious Than Gold was our first album, professionally recorded in 1982 at Pinebrook Studio in Alexandria, Indiana. It was produced by Steve Millikan, a very gifted musician who also played keyboards and arranged the instruments and vocals for the pieces. Sound engineer: Steve Archer; bass guitar: Steve Dokken; percussion: Steve Hanna; electric and acoustic guitars: Jim Hronchek; trumpet: Gregory Tryling; English horn, saxophone and clarinet: Greg Imboden; background vocals Shelly Harris, Julie Makers, Craig Patty, Chandra Hronchek, Steve Millikan and members of New Covenant Fellowship. The synthesizer was a Pro One, an early monophonic synthesizer, and was played by Jim H, Steve M and Charles Woodrick. Each song from the album was based on The Lords Prayer, exploring its depths of meaning. All of the song lyrics were meticulously based on scripture from the King James Bible.

Daily Bread is based on: Exodus 16:14,15; John 6:51; John 6:41; John 6:58; Matthew 14:15-21; Revelation 3:21, John 1:14; John 17:16-18; John 6:27; John 6:55-57; Galatians 5:22,23; James 2:18; John 6:51; John 6:58

Give us this day our daily bread …

Daily Bread reminds us of two times that God miraculously supplied the needs of His people: when the Israelites were in the desert, God sent manna from heaven; then when Jesus preached to the 5000, he miraculously supplied a meal before he sent them on their way. God also supplies spiritual bread to sustain us. Jesus spoke of the the spiritual bread when he said “… Man shall not live by bread alone…” (Matthew 4:4).

Daily Bread

by Jim & Chandra Hronchek | More Precious Than Gold

We added some special sound effects to the first two verses. For verse 1, we put a microphone out in our yard very early one  morning in order to catch the sound of the mourning doves before the traffic began to get noisy. We wanted people to be able to envision the Israelites as they got up early in the morning to find miraculous flakes of manna waiting for them to gather. For verse 2, we tried to imagine what the peoples’ response would be when Jesus and his disciples started feeding them from just a few loaves and fishes. We asked people from our congregation to stay after the service one Sunday morning, and recorded them having everyday, relaxed murmers of conversation that you would expect people to have when they are getting ready to eat, then an orchestrated gasp of astonishment as the bread was multiplied.

The word of God is the bread that really satisfies your soul.

LYRICS

Verse 1
They awoke in the morning
their eyes upon the dew
Glistening in the sunrise
white sparkling, and new
When the moisture lifted
Flakes of bread stayed behind
Praise the Lord! Hallelujah!
Our hunger is satisfied

Chorus
Daily Bread given freely
By our Lord Jesus Christ
Daily Bread from highest heaven
To fill our need and satisfy

Daily Bread given freely
By our Lord Jesus Christ
Daily Bread from highest heaven
To bring us everlasting life

Verse 2
Five thousand men were there to hear Him
Preach the word of faith
“Blessed are those who hunger and thirst
 for righteousness’ sake”
Five loaves and two small fish
Blessed and broken in faith
Fed five thousand families
By the word that Jesus spake

Chorus

Verse 3
Lord until we sit beside You
And enjoy the lasting life
Since You are the Word made flesh
Since Your word is truth and life
Give us daily of Yourself Lord
To fulfill our many needs
Let us eat the bread of life
And show it in the lives we lead

Chorus
